I passed this gentlemen, Joe Ades, everyday on my way to work. He sat in this spot selling vegetable peelers for as long as I can remember, often selling 5 at a time - "there's no better deal". But sadly, I just found out that he passed away on Sunday. The article doesn't say from what, but I'm assuming age. He always had a smile and always tried his spiel on me but I never bought one, I thought for sure I could get his carrot peeler another day. This image is from March of 2008 - I'm going to miss him - he was such a part of the market and my commute... only in NY!
