Walking up Bedford Ave last weekend I was amazed at how little remained from when I lived there 12 years ago. Even Raymond's, my goto Polish Restaurant, was no longer. As we neared Hernandez bodega I said, "I hope they still have all the wood shelves". Not only did they still have them but Mr. Hernandez was still working the counter! I still remember one afternoon a pack of kids from Auto High School were surrounding another kid and punching him when Mr. Hernandez grabbed him, pulled him in the store and locked the door. He didn't remember the story but I never forgot it. At least some things remain...
