Day 3-ish, taking the back roads.

Paterson, Georgia

Dupont, Georgia

Somewhere on the border of Georgia and Florida.

Savannah to Panama City Beach - taking the slow backroads to the water. Towns so small you drive through faster then you realize you are in the them. Dead towns. Logger towns. Towns with nothing but a new gas station. Porches covered with what no longer fits inside. Many homes collapsed from time and even more cars left to fade along the Route. Paterson looked like folks just got up and left, stores full of goods, UPS notice on the window, waiting - dusty and faded. A photographers dream I hope to see more of on the way back to Savannah. We had a time limit today, needed to keep moving - making it to Panama City Beach with 2 minutes to spare - then wandered the beach for sunset. It's beautiful here, still hot but the ocean breeze makes it tolerable.

Kirbyville

I really hoped it was going to be an actual trailer covered in sparkles. Big smile. But alas, just another trailer on the side of the road full of sparklers and other fun explosives to light up the nights to come.

along the road

I'm having a hard time keeping the photography up while working every day. Just another reason to stay poor, creative happiness. I plan to take off into Pennsylvania this weekend so who knows what I'll come up with. The photo above is from the drive down to AC. The not-so-crazy AC trip that felt absolutely crazy to me.

Vacant.

You would think growing up in Detroit I wouldn't have the "how did this happen" reaction. A big beautiful house on a large lot of land, a small lake to the right, the ocean a few blocks away, 10 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, 7 fireplaces etc. But this is a house from a different time - a time when people built homes to show people they had a home. On the road. In town. Large. Grand. White. Now the large homes are built away from town, hidden by fences, secluded and guarded. You too can own this mess of repairs for a mere $2 million dollars! Sign o' the times, mess with your mind. Hurry before it's too late...

A Drive out East.

I only have an auto for a few more weeks so I'm trying to take advantage of the time not spent in an office. Getting out, driving and trying to find interesting places. Passing by the old Brooklyn Water Works I thought about jumping the fence but it didn't seem as interesting as the old photos. Looked more like a movie set. So I cruised on out along the Montauk Hwy not quite making it anywhere but driving and taking it all in. I remember passing this place years ago and was surprised to see it look the same. Not much in Patchogue seems to have changed. I didn't stay long but maybe another time.
