20 minutes.

From down the beach I spotted the crowd gathering around the one man with a pole, grabbed the camera and made my way to join them. You know it's something big when the sun worshippers give up their towels and umbrellas to watch a man fish. No one knew exactly what he had but we knew it was big. He had fought it for at least 15 minutes before I got there and it was a tough fight still - waiting on a big wave to really yank it in - then he had it! A big ray up on the beach. A few more minutes of fighting then the hook broke loose, back into the ocean he flopped. Hands were shaken. Photos taken. One worn out fishermen found his way to a chair. Sandy Hook, NJ.

Salty.

Earl wasn't so tough so the sails went up and we went out. This was probably the last pic I took for the ride, right before the big salty water crashed all over me and the camera. Glad the baby is mostly water-resistant. Many more images soon, but now, like most of us, I must go back to work...

Capturing the Empire #12

12.02.2008

It's hard to keep up the motivation to shoot in this weather. I cannot jump on the bike and my feet will only get me so far. So last weekend I rented a car and drove down Old Route 22 to visit my brother. I was remembering a different road when I planned my route but it was still interesting. I was that driver you can't stand: break lights, coast...ooh, interesting, speed up - break lights... then between a cave and Quakertown I took a wrong turn. I love wrong turns but the sun was going down and I needed to get to Reading, time to just drive. I'll post a few more images this week, but this is where I started... good ol' Jersey.
