Love.

Leaving Long Beach, May 2011

Sometimes it's hard to put in words how much I adore NYC. A train ride to Port Washington. A sail to Larchmont then New Jersey. A ferry to Manhattan. A subway to Brooklyn. A train to Long Beach and back again. All ending in sunshine and happiness. What better way to start this summer.

Salty.

Earl wasn't so tough so the sails went up and we went out. This was probably the last pic I took for the ride, right before the big salty water crashed all over me and the camera. Glad the baby is mostly water-resistant. Many more images soon, but now, like most of us, I must go back to work...

quiet.

We ran into quite a bit of fog along the way and in Stonington, at some points you could barely see 10 feet away. Incredibly beautiful and peaceful with a touch of tension while watching for the unexpected.

Jersey City to Stonington CT - day 1

We set sail at 6am from Liberty Landing into the Hudson with the sun rising over Manhattan. It was early, very early, but absolutely amazing. Around the tip of Manhattan, up the East River, Hells Gate then off into the Long Island Sound. The city was quiet, the waters still, blue skies above and a big smile on my face. It was pretty slow going until the evening when the wind finally picked up and the sails were raised. We made it to Duck Island Roads in CT the first day, an 18 hour sail. I was worried I would get seasick or want off the boat, lucky me neither happened. It was a beautiful day with a gorgeous full moon rising to help us navigate the dark waters. A quick rest to get ready for day 2.
