2 + 2 = Gode Time

We saw the smoke and helicopter and decided to go see what was burning. When I lost sight of the smoke I decided we should just head to the Heidelberg since we were nearby. Soon as we turned on Ellery I saw all the trucks and my heart sunk thinking it was another of Tyree's creations. The house was not part of the Heidelberg Project, it was on Benson one street over, but Tyree had added text to the side of it. I asked the neighbor next to this house if he worried about his own house getting hit by arson, he felt that only buildings with Tyree's markings on them are the target in this area. For his sake, I hope he's right. I don't understand the animosity/jealousy/anger towards Tyree's work, but if that is true, I fear they might all burn.

The last pic is from another artist that has/had his studio on Heidelberg Street - Tim Burke. Recently someone had hit his building with arson as well. His side lot where all his sculptures are was fine, but the house took quite a hit. More info on his website - http://www.detroitindustrialgallery.com/

Feed your fire.

Stare it in the face and revel in the heat!

A blank canvas, again.

When I heard the OJ house burned to the ground I knew I had to go down... putting Mom off for just a couple hours. My first reaction, "Damn those stupid mofo's!". Tyree thinks otherwise and sees yet another opportunity. Not to fret, only move forward. As Bach played from his truck, Tyree seemed to be conducting what's to come. The sun came through the clouds and he stepped back to envision his next creation. Truly inspiring. Thank you Tyree.

and yet another fire...

last night a fire broke out at this house in the Heidelberg - The OJ House or Obstruction of Justice House. This makes me so angry! I think someone is deliberately starting fires at art houses in Detroit. First Imagination Station, now OJ. Mr. Money Manager needs to step up and help the Detroit Fire Dept ASAP!

Here's one from 2007, need to dig out my original files

then light the fire.

It was too early to go home, but too late be so far, so I rode. Through the quiet of Queens into the life of Willyb, passing party after party I'm sure I should know about but kept riding until I passed a party I couldn't pass up. Just off of Kent Avenue on the south side of Willyb there was a party of another sort getting started, Lag Ba'ome - a bonfire celebrating the life and death of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yohai. After a few pushes and shoves from the women, I eventually stood my ground and managed to capture the celebration. A bonfire built of pallets in the road only ending when the FDNY arrived to extinguish the flames.

even more on flickr, of course.

No More.

I heard from my cousin that there was a major fire here last year but there are always fires, I didn't expect it to be gone. My photo project, which was a favorite candy store of the aunts and uncles growing up, is now like most of their childhood neighborhood... gone.

Holidays on Ice

Nothing like the first snow, rain, ice, more snow and a manhole explosion to keep it festive.
